Natrang’s ‘Theatre-in-Education’ workshop from Feb 7

JAMMU, Feb 3 Natrang has decided to organise first ever ‘Theatre-In-Education’ workshop from February 7 at its Studio Theatre here.
This was disclosed by Natrang Director, Balwant Thakur while addressing media persons here today. The Director disclosed that organized by National School of Drama, New Delhi in collaboration with Natrang Jammu, workshop is aimed at introducing theatre in schools in a highly professional manner.
“Top level five experts from National School including Aasha Singh and Suwarn Rawat would conduct this specialized residential training programme. Twenty theatre actors, directors and teachers associated with the theatre activities would participate in this training programme which is going to be the first ever initiative to have the professional intervention in theatre for school children,” Balwant said.
Giving further details, he said that Natrang through its highly acclaimed children’s plays has established Jammu as the ultimate destination of children’s theatre in India. Natrang has been orgainsing theatre camps for children regularly since 1990 and has produced plays of National and International acclaim. “Now the organization is all set to spread its wings and wish to extend its programmes to the whole length and breadth of the state. Earlier only privileged children of Jammu city have been fortunate to have this facility but now Natrang plans to reach to the remotest corners of the state after training a core group which will be responsible to extend the network of Theatre-in –education in other parts of the state,” he said.
He added, “Theatre is being used as the ultimate tool in exploring the immense inner abilities of the children and is regarded as the compulsory activity of the schools.”
He however, lamented that unfortunately in Jammu neither the educational educations nor the parents have come out of the rate race of report cards.
He claimed that the forthcoming workshop would open a new chapter of Arts and Theatre in education in the State.
