Early Times Report Poonch, Feb 3 Terming Pahari community more nomadic than Gujjars, Chairman of J&K Pahari Cultural and Welfare Forum Syed Mushtaq Bukhari has said that central government should respect the state Legislative Assembly by responding the resolution passed by it and referred to the Centre for granting Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to Paharies by the house few years ago. Addressing a public rally at Surankote during his three days tour to the twin border districts, Syed Mushtaq Bukhari said that Paharies are still migrating from one place to another and they have maintained its tribal identity. He said that the culture of Pahari community is centuries old and their region is already have been identified. Appealing the union government to respect the verdict of state assembly and grant ST status to Paharies, Bukhari said that although state assembly has passed resolution and has already referred it to Centre yet no action has been taken on it. He said that New Delhi should respond to the resolution adopted by the assembly. Vowing to go to any extent to get their basic right from centre, Bukhari said Pahari tribe is the deprived community and they must be given the status at the earliest so that they can also go ahead on the path of progress. Saying that scheduled tribe status is basic right of Paharies, Bukhari said that the state cabinet in 1989 recommended the Centre Government for granting scheduled tribe status to 7 tribes including Paharies but the community was denied the status due to unknown reason. Addressing the gathering, Mirza Abdul Rashid appealed the Pahari people to get united and fight for their cause adding that there is no reason of turning down of the ST status demand this time. Member Legislative Council MR Qureshi appealed the people to support the forum in the struggle so that the future of next generation could be secured. Others who were present on the occasion included Mohammad Azam Sagar, Provincial President of the Forum, Bashir Wani and Shahbaz Khan, Chief Executive of J&K Pahari Peoples’ Movement.
