New Delhi, Feb 3: Union Home Minister P Chidambaram will attend the SAARC Home Minister’s Summit in Islamabad.
The foreign secretaries of India and Pakistan are likely to meet very soon to focus on starting the dialogue process, after relations between the two countries soured following the 26/ 11 Mumbai attacks.
The foreign secretaries are expected to meet after Union Home Minister P Chidambaram returns from Islamabad after attending the SAARC Home Minister’s Summit from February 26-28.
However, well-paced sources said that the two foreign secretaries would not be discussing elements of the composite peace process.
The focus would primarily remain on issues related to terrorism, especially those pertaining to investigations regarding the November 2008 Mumbai attacks, the sources said.
The prime ministers of the two countries are also likely to meet during the two-day SAARC Summit in Thimpu, which is to be held on April 28-29.
On Tuesday, External Affairs Minister S. M. Krishna indicated that India and Pakistan could meet for a fresh round of talks, but stressed it would focus only on the war on terror.
“Based on the dossiers provided by India, Pakistan should investigate further and bring the perpetrators of the Mumbai attacks to justice,” Krishna said. He said that talks would continue to revolve around the terror infrastructure in Pakistan.
“The terror infrastructure in Pakistan has been the focal point of dialogue with Pakistan and will continue to be the focal point,” Krishna said when asked whether Union home minister P. Chidambaram would visit Islamabad for the SAARC home ministers’ meeting.
