| Wamiq’s mother rejects ex-gratia | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Feb 3: We do not need ex-gratia. We need justice. We can give ex-gratia to the tune of Rs 10 lakhs to Omar Abdullah for his two sons. This was stated by Wamiq’s mother, Firdousa while addressing media persons at her Rainawari residence. A tearful Firdousa said that she received a call from district magistrate’s office last evening. “The caller said the government had sanctioned RS 2 lakh as ex-gratia for Wamiq’s killing. He also told me that a family member shall get government employment as well. We have been told to keep mum”, she said and burst into tears. “The Chief Minister does not know what death of a son means to his mother. I am ready to give ten lakhs to him for his two sons”, she sobbed. Firdousa lashed out at doctors who in their report have said that Wamiq died of cardiac arrest. “This is not true. My son was killed in cold blood by the police. Eyewitnesses have said that the police man fired a shell at his head from point blank range. The doctors have truck with the authorities. The doctor who gave the report is equally responsible for my son’s killing”, she said. Firdousa said the situation had worsened and no mother would allow her son to go out for playing.
Top JeM commander Shikari alias Tipu among three killed by security forces
JAMMU, Feb 3: Three militants belonging to Lashker-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) were killed in two separate encounters in Poonch and Kishtwar districts of Jammu Province today. In the first incident, a JeM militant was killed in a gunbattle with Rashtriya Rifles troops and police during a search operation in Chattral-Nadal forest belt in Mendhar area, 210 km from here, late last night, they said. During the operation, militants fired at the troops and in the retaliatory firing one militant of JeM was killed. The slain militant has been identified as Parbat Shikari alias Aziz Ali alias Tipu of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK). Shikari carried with him "fake" identity card of a government middle school teacher to roam through villages and avoid arrest at police and army nakas. The card had on it the stamp and signatures of zonal education officer (ZEO), Mankot, Mendhar. It was, however, yet to be verified if the seal and signatures were original or fake, police sources said. The card, which bore No ZEM/612-S, had militant's photograph pasted on it. As per the card, his name was Pravez Ahmad, son of Mohammad Arif of Topa, Mendhar. His real name was, however, Parvat Ali Shikari alias Tippu, a resident of Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK). Sources said the card, which looked like an original one, showed that he was a teacher in a government middle school at Thera Topa in Mendhar. He was active in Mendhar and other Poonch areas for the past over five years and had taken the reins of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) after the killing of Abu Daud in an encounter in Mendhar last month. Security forces came to know about his presence in the house of one Mohammad Yaqub at Chhunga in Mendhar late Tuesday night. An operation was then planned and jawans of 39 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), 37 RR, police and 152 Bn of CRPF laid a cordon around the house. Sources said it was at about 4 am when he came out of the house and hurled a grenade towards the ambush party, besides opening heavy volume of fire, which was returned. Sources said he was killed after a fierce exchange of fire. There were, however, reports of the presence of two more militants with him, who probably managed to escape, the sources added that Shikari, who was with Abu Daud in the Bhatti Dhar gunbattle, was wounded in an encounter with security forces at Chhajla, Mendhar, on August 26 last year, but had managed to escape. Sources said with his killing, the JeM back was broken in Poonch. Two photographs of local youth were also recovered from him which showed that he was also instrumental in motivating local youth to join militant ranks. One AK rifle, three magazines, 111 rounds, one radio set, one cell phone, eight SIMs (six of Airtel and two of Aircel), a copy of the holy Quaran, two code sheets, three matrix sheets, Rs 1460 in Indian currency and two Chinese grenades were also recovered from him. SSP, Poonch, Manmohan Singh said the code sheets would be sent for decoding to intelligence agencies. Two handwritten letters were also seized. One letter, written by a local had details of SIMs, while the other was written by him to PoK-based Col Sher Khan alias Col Sheri of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Sources said the letter to Col Sheri was to be sent across the border through some exfiltrating militants or JeM sympathisers. The letter had detailed information about his activities on this side of the border, the sources added. Sources said Yaqub's house, in which he was hiding, overlooked the headquarters of 39 RR at Mendhar. Yaqub was being questioned if Shikari had come to his house to throw a grenade on the 39 RR headquarters. Sources said the operation launched in search for the escaped militants was continuing till late tonight. The other recoveries from the site of the encounter included an AK 47 rifle with three magazines and 111 rounds, one radio set, one mobile, 8 SIM cards, two grenades and Rs 1,460 in Indian currency, they said. In another encounter, a joint team of police and army gunned down two LeT militants in Meeran village of Patmihala, about 260-km from here, in Kishtwar district this evening, Kishtwar Superintendent of Police (SP) Haseeb Mughal said. The slain militants have been identified as Nisar Ahmed Shah alias Abu Maz and Saifullah, he said, adding one AK rifle and two magazines were recovered from the site. The operation was still on when last reports came in, Mughal added. Police said the killing of the terrorists was a great success as it would give a severe blow to both outfits.
