| 25 cops among 75 injured in Kashmir | | 50 held for stone pelting | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Feb 3: Violent clashes between policed and stone pelting youth continued for second consecutive day today across Kashmir. Today’s clashes left at least 75 persons including 25 police and CRPF men wounded. The police took into custody 50 `stone pelters’ from Batmaloo and down town Srinagar. People resumed normal activities early this morning in uptown city. However, the stone pelters soon forced the people to go indoors. Traffic went off the roads and shops were closed. Soon after ding dong battles ensued with the police at Sidiqabad and elsewhere in Batmaloo areas. The police lobbed scores of tear smoke shells to disperse the protestors. Several rounds were fired in air to scare away the stone pelting youth. Later, the police barged into houses, especially in Sidiqabad area and arrested twenty youth. The clashes at Nowhatta took a dramatic turn when CRPF personnel grabbed and thrashed the concerned SHO who was trying to rescue a youth from them. Whole of Nowhatta witnessed massive clashes that continued throughout the day. A youth was critically injured when a stray smoke shell hit him in the head. He was rushed to SKIMS. Clashes continued in Maisuma all day. Smoke emanating from smoke shells chocked the locals. Five civilians sustained injuries in the clashes. SHO Kralkhud sustained injuries in violent clashes this morning. The police fired several rounds in air to scare away the protesters. Clashes have also been reported from Noor Bagh, Qamarwari, Natipora, Bemina, Basant Bagh, Ram Bagh, Parimpora, Seki Dafar and Barzulla areas. Scores of persons sustained injuries in these clashes. Baramulla witnessed day long clashes today. The CZRPF ransacked the bureau office of a local English daily. The DIG North Kashmir has ordered an enquiry into the incident. The day long clashes left several persons including some police men injured. Five persons including a policeman sustained injuries in Anatnag clashes. The youth pelted stones on a CRPF vehicle at Pulwama causing injuries to 10 constables. Shopian observed total strike notwithstanding the appeals of the Majlis-e-Mushawarat to the contrary. The police arrested 11 persons for stone pelting. They were immediately shifted to Central Jail. IGP Kashmir Range, Farooq Ahmad confirmed clashes across Kashmir. He said the clashes left 15 police men injured. He, however, could not give the number of the civilians injured during the day.
