| Fake saffron invokes PSA, 4 detained | | |
Early Times Report Srinagar, Feb 3: Four persons involved in producing fake saffron have been detained under public safety act (PSA). This was stated today by DIG South Kashmir, Kamal Saini while addressing a press conference at Pampore today. Saini said the house where fake saffron was manufactured has been sealed in accordance with court orders to that effect. “The culprits have caused severe loss to saffron growers and have been detained under PSA”, he said adding the public had been demanding their detention under PSA. DIG Kamal Saini said the culprits had truck with traders outside the state and had been selling fake saffron to gullible customers across India. “During the course of investigation police sought permission to search the houses of Shabir Ahmad Dar and Ghulam Hasan Dar of Befina, Pampore. The police recovered eleven kilograms of fake saffron and 29 kilograms of raw material. Similarly with the help of Saffron Welfare Committee, the police recovered 35 kilograms of fake saffron. From the possession of Muhammad Ashraf Dar and Ghulam Nabi Wani. Both of them have been taken into custody.” Saini assured proper action against the culprits. “Nobody involved in the racket will be spared”, he said. The police have registered FIR No 2/2010 under sections 420, 272 RPC, 3/7 E C A and Section 6, PDAA. The police also seized Maruti car No JK13-8604. However, police are looking for Abdul Rehman Khanday of Parimpora who is absconding. Investigations are on.
