| Govt extending IGNWPC, IGNDPS to J&K: Sakina | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 4
The State Government is planning to extend Indira Gandhi National widow Pension Scheme (IGNWPS) and Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme (IGNDPS), to provide financial assistance to the widows and disabled persons. This was stated at a review meeting of the department presided by the Minister for Social Welfare, Sakina Itoo here today. Under these schemes monthly pension benefit of Rs.325 would be provided to each beneficiary. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the widows in the age group of 40 to 64 years belonging to house hold families living below the poverty line shall be eligible for the benefits under IGNWPS, while the persons suffering from severe or multiple disabilities shall be eligible for the benefits of IGNDPS. She said initially 8778 beneficiaries would be covered under these schemes. The Minister said that a new centrally sponsored scheme “integrated child protection scheme” is also being extended State to improve well being of children in difficult circumstances, in this connection, a project of Rs.41 crore is being submitted to the centre for release of funds on 90:10 ratio, she said. Highlighting the new initiatives taken by the Government, the Social Welfare Minister said that 3094 new Anganwari centres (CAWC), are being opened under phase III which would provide employment to 6188 educated women in the state. She said in order to speed up the disposal of pension cases, the record of beneficiaries under Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme (IGNO) is being computerized and timely and monthly credits of pension in favour of all the beneficiaries ensured in all districts. She said all habitations with 40 children and above would be covered either through expansion programme or by having “Anganwari Centre on Demand.”
