| Rs 230 cr being spent on monuments: Jora | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 4
Minister for Tourism and Culture, Nawang Rigzin Jora has said that the State’s monumental heritage is being preserved and showcased in a big way to attract tourists. During his visit to the magnificent Samba Fort today, Jora said that Rs. 230 crore were being spent for restoration and conservation of historical places, including Royal Palace Mubarak Mandi, Jammu Bahu Fort, Chingus Fort Rajouri, Bhimgargh Fort Reasi and Lakhanpur Fort, Hari Parbat Fort, SPS museum Srinagar, Kahtyar Temple Anantnag and ancestral Mahjoor House, besides other heritage sites of the State. He said 35 monuments have been declared as protected heritage sites of the State, which would be protected and conserved. He said the Samba Fort edifice built by Raja Suchat Singh on the remains of 1830 (AD) Nag Raj Gour Sena’s Fort is a State protected monument. Expressing his reverence and love for cross cultural plurality of the State, Jora said artistic richness of under-renovation Mubarak Mandi Complex in Jammu, Hari Parbat in Kashmir and Buddhist monasteries in Ladakh are apt indicators of Jammu and Kashmiri’s homogeneity. While taking round of the Fort, the Minister said that restoration work of the Fort would be started soon, for which Rs. 25 lakh have been released to Tourism Department. He also instructed for formulation of a detailed project report, for complete restoration of the Fort, which is an epitome of Dogra heritage. He said funds for the same would be sought from Union Ministry of Tourism . MLA Samba, Yashpal Kundal, Director General, Archives, Syed Khurshid Ahmad Qadri, District Development Commissioner, Samba, Surab Bhagat, besides senior officers and engineers of Tourism Department were accompanying the Minister.
