| NC, PDP wash dirty linen in public | | |

Srinagar, Feb 4: The on-going turmoil has triggered a war of words between National Conference (NC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Both the parties hold each other responsible for the mess the state finds itself in today. The NC believes dreaded Ikhwani, Muma Kana had truck with PDP. The PDP accused NC of grooming and encouraging the goons.
The PDP president, Mahbooba Mufti did not attend the board meeting at Shopian today. Mahbooba represents Wachi constituency in the state legislature and was, therefore, supposed to be present in the board meeting. Explaining her absence while addressing a press conference at her Gupkar residence this evening, Mahbooba said she cannot rub shoulders with the killers. “The Chief Minister has failed to bring the rapists of Aasiya and Neelofar to justice. I did not want to rub salt into the wounds of Shopian people by sitting with a person who has failed at every front”, she said.
Mufti held Omar led government responsible for what she called frustration among the youth. “The disillusioned youth give vent to their anger by pelting stones”, she said.
Accusing Omar of blaming Pakistan for all the wrongs in the state, Mufti said the problem lies in the administration and not elsewhere. “The NC has always groomed and encouraged goons. They have insulted the people of Jammu Kashmir by proposing dreaded Ikhwani, Muma Kana’s name for Padam Shree award”, she said.
NC’s firebrand leader, Ali Muhammad Sagar while replying Mahbooba’s allegations said: “Padam Shree Muma Kana has admitted his role in Rubiya Sayed release and long association with Mufti Muhammad Sayed.”
Surprisingly the NC let its Rajya Sabha members do most of the talking. Sharif-ud-Din Shariq held PDP patron, Mufti Sayed responsible for death and destruction in Jammu Kashmir. Shariq accused Mufti of “facilitating genocide of Kashmiris.”
Mufti, Shariq said, gave special powers to the armed forces.” He founded the Task Force and brought army out of the barracks to roads and lanes of Jammu Kashmir”, he said.
Shariq said Mufti rendered Art 370 hollow. “He appointed Jag Mohan as governor to kill Kashmiris. Mufti and his daughter have no sympathy for the people of the state. They have lust for power”, he said.
“Mufti’s 15 ministers were involved in the infamous sex scandal. They had somehow managed anticipatory bails to escape arrest”, he said.
Shariq said PDP was a creation of union Home Ministry. “It has been made and groomed by New Delhi to fulfil ulterior motives”, he said.
Another Rajya Sabha member, Ghulam Nabi Rattanpuri lashed out at Mahbooba for abstaining from the Shopian board meeting. “She claims to represent the people of Kashmir but abstains from an important meeting. The PDP leadership wants to take credit for all the developmental work in the state”, he said.
