| HUJI ‘Supreme Commander’,2 deputies killed in Kishtwar | | RR jawan too killed; HUJI commander's wife held | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 04: A day after killing two top Lashkar militants at Patti Mohalla in Kishtwar, security forces today achieved another major success when they gunned down a Pak-trained Supreme Commander of Harkat-ul-Jehad-e-Islami (HUJI) and his two deputies in a fierece gun battle in Kishtwar's Khankhu Dhar Ridge forests near Bela Chicha. Police sources said acting on a tip-off about the presence of militants in the Khankhu Dhar Ridge forests, police and troops of 11 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and 26 RR jointly launched a "seek and destroy" operation in the area this morning. While the troops were combing the woods, three militants, who were hiding in the area, fired at them, resulting in the instant death of sepoy Ravi Kant of 11 RR. The other jawans retaliated and in the ensuing exchange of fire that lasted over two hours, the troops killed all the three militants. Sources identified the slain militants as HUJI's Supreme Commander Feroz Ahmed Mengnu alias Dawood of Tander Dachhan and his deputy commanders -- Nazir Ahmed alias Abu Furqan of Chicha and Mohammad Ishaq of Tander Dachhan. Two AK rifles, one SLR with magazines and a huge quantity of ammunition were recovered from them. Sources said after the encounter was over, Dawood's wife Babli, who was with the militants in their hideout, was taken into custody by the troops. During questioning, she confessed her involvement in the militant activities in the area for the past three-four years. She was then whisked away to the concerned police station for her detailed interrogation. The body of the killed jawan was later evacuated to Kishtwar town from where it would be sent his home Friday. Sources said Dawood was involved in the killing of two civilians -- Abdul Majid and Nazir Ahmed -- at Tander in June last year. On January 28 this year, he and his associates had killed army jawans Jagdish Singh of Punjab and Raj Kumar of Palmar, Kishtwar, at Tander Dachhan. Sources said Dawood was also instrumental in recruiting local youth in HUJI ranks.
