Enhanced irrigation facilities to mop up rainfall deficit: Bhalla

JAMMU, FEB 5: Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation, Mr. Raman Bhalla has said that the Coalition Government was endeavouring hard to provide adequate irrigation facilities to farmers for enabling them to cope up with the long dry spells being experienced in the state .
The Minister was speaking after laying the foundation stone of 900 meter deep drain at Raipur-Satwari, to be completed at a cost of Rs. 10 lakh.
Bhalla said that due to global warming and the continuous dry spell, the water level was decreasing day-by-day. He said that instructions have been issued to concerned departments to dig hand pumps in rural as well as urban areas to meet the requirement of drinking water in summer season. He said that the Government has launched a number of welfare schemes for uplifting the socio-economic condition of the farmers by providing loans and agriculture implement kits.
The Minister asked the farmers not to sell agriculture land without the prior permission of the Revenue Department so as to discourage constructions on it.
Responding to the locals demands, the Minister asked the Power Development Department to install 25 poles in uncovered areas of the Raipur-Satwari village. He asked the Irrigation Department to start the work on irrigation distributory at Bua Ditta Mohalla in Raipur Satwari, estimated to cost Rs. 7 lakh. He further directed for preparing estimates for maintenance of distributaries and lanes and drains and submit the same for funding .
At Channi Himmat, the Minister also attended Annual Day function of Modern Public High School, Channi Himmat, as the Chief Guest.
The students of the school presented a colourful cultural programme, besides staging a play ‘Mata Vaishno Devi” which was highly applauded by the students, parents, teaching, non-teaching staff members.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that cultural and co-curricular activities foster a simultaneous process of thinking and feeling, which leads to the gradual growth of talent in the students.
