| Govt committed to ameliorate lot of people: Slathia | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, FEB 5: Minister for Industries and Commerce, Mr. Surjit Singh Slathia today reaffirmed the Government’s resolve to ameliorate the lot of people, especially downtrodden and weaker sections of the society, living in far-flung and remote areas of the State. Addressing series of public meetings at Ramgarh and the border village of Chak Bakhan in Vijaypur block, the Minister said that efforts are afoot to provide facilities like healthcare, better road connectivity and potable water supply to every habitation. He said that the people should cooperate with the Government in ameliorating their lot by extending cooperation for early completion of various projects, launched for their welfare. He enjoined upon the people to educate their girl children so that they could be able to compete in various fields and easily get the opportunities of employment. “This is imperative for women empowerment”, he added Responding to the demands, raised by the residents of Ramgarh and Chak Bakhan villages, the Minister assured that their demands for upgradation of roads, improvement in drains and lanes and supply of regular safe drinking water would be conceded in a phased manner. He also sanctioned three tube wells for Ramgarh town. He assured that sufficient stocks would be made available at the ration depots at the earliest. Pending widow and handicapped pension cases would also be settled at the earliest, he added. He said one more Anganwari Centre and one Knitting Centre at Chak Bakhan village would also be sanctioned for absorption of educated females of the area With regard to the demand for construction of community halls, Mr. Slathia said that the whole area of Ramgarh, being the evacuee property, construction of community halls could not be considered unless private land is donated voluntarily for the purpose. He, however, assured that a Town Hall at an estimated cost of Rs 25 lakh could be constructed to meet the requirements of the people. He also issued instructions to the authorities of PDD for installation of two separate transformers in the village, one exclusively for the irrigation purposes. Mr. Slathia also distributed four cheques of Rs 30,000 each among the houseless persons under IAY for construction of their dwelling houses and urged to utilize the amount for the purpose it has been sanctioned.
