| Gujjar-Pahari distance widens in Rajouri-Poonch | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Rajouri , July 5: With every passing day , the gap between the two Muslim communities in Poonch and Rajouri border region seems to be widening with an alarming rate . Poonch- Rajouri border region of the state of Jammu and Kashmir dominantly inhabited by Muslims in majority, is clearly divided between two major sections called Gujjars and Pharies. Both the communities have similar geographical conditions and economical position at present, however, culturally and traditionally they differ from each other . Despite all the cultural and traditional differences between the two communities both the communities had no enmity till 1991 when the central government accorded schedule tribe status to the Gujjars of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. In 1991, when the central government accorded schedule tribe status to the Gujjars of the state of Jammu and Kashmir, The wider impact of the decision was witnessed in Poonch –Rajouri border region where the Gujjars and Pharies are inhabited door to door neighbors. Since then the Phari speaking people in the region have been struggling for the same . However, the Gujjars are of the apprehension that if the Pharies are included in the list of schedule tribe communities they (Paharis) will be accommodated with in the share they are enjoying at present . Thus the Gujjars started opposing the demand of Phari people . At present , both the communities are at the alarming stage of hatred and a little fuel can set whole of the region on fire . However, there is still a hope bridging the gap between the two if a religious and spiritual Mian family of Laar Sharief plays a role .
