2/5/2010 11:11:09 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Feb 05: A 50-year-old woman of Kanachak has accused the local Police of committing atrocities on her in custody.
Peoples Democratic Party leaders Shanti Devi and Suram Singh accompanied the woman, identified as Kailasho Devi wife of Karan Singh, at a press conference at PDP office here today. The PDP leaders warned of a mass agitation if action was taken against erring Police officials.

The victim alleged that her sister Asha Devi had complained to Kanachak Police station about the atrocities of her husband. She said that the officials at Police station gave her his Mobile number and asked her to call at the time when her husband indulges in such act. On 23rd of January, Asha Devi went to field where her husband reached after some time and started thrashing her after a brief verbal duel. Asha Devi as per instructions of Police officials informed the Police station but instead of providing him some help, he deputed a SPO to the spot. SPO took three villagers along with him and reached the spot and thrashed helpless woman who was seriously injured in the process.
She was later shifted to Government Medical College Jammu where after getting treatment she was discharged. In the meanwhile on same day during afternoon hours, cops from Kanachak Police station reached the house of her sister Kailasho Devi and took her to police station and perpetrated all sorts of excesses to her. The distressed woman sought the assistance of PDP leader Shanti Devi in bringing justice to her and the later organized a press conference in her support. Woman was accompanied by large number of villagers who threatened of grave consequences in case government turns deaf ear towards them.
