| Rs 10Cr for new alternate road in Akhnoor | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, FEB 5: The Government has approved double laning of alternate road from new Chenab Bridge, to Mera Mandrian via Balgara-Pyan, which is estimated to cost Rs. 10 crore. This will considerably reduce the distance between Jammu-Reasi and onward journey to Gool. The announcement was made by Minister for Health, Horticulture and Floriculture, Mr. Sham Lal Sharma, while addressing a public meeting, after inaugurating Additional Block of Government High School, Mera Mandrian in Akhnoor zone, constructed at a cost of Rs. 8 lakh today. Sham said that considering the importance of road connectivity and education for the overall development of rural areas, the Government has accorded first priority to these sectors and formulated a comprehensive programme to upgrade these facilities in every nook and corner of the State. Maintaining that during the past 4-5 years, road connectivity has received greater attention in Akhnoor tehsil, the Minister said that almost all the habitations of the tehsil have been connected with Akhnoor town, adding that alternate road from Chenab Bridge, to Mera Mandrian via Balgara-Pyan would be soon developed to double lane. Listing other under execution road projects, he said double laning of Khuga-Mera Mandrian-Reasi road was in full swing and concrete culverts have been constructed over all major Nullahs, falling along the road to ensure that the road remains operational even during heavy rains. He said that the in past the road was frequently blocked due to flash floods in rainy season thereby causing great hardships to the people. He hoped that socio-economic condition of villages along the road will definitely go up after its completion. Responding to the demands of locals, the Minister directed the engineers to formulate a comprehensive proposal for construction of boundary wall, toilet block and examination hall for the High School, Mera Mandrian. He assured that steps would be taken to improve drinking water, medicare, electricity and other facilities in the area.
