| GCW Parade wins inter-college cricket trophy | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 5: Government College for Women (GCW), Parade today downed the fighting GCW Udhampur by five runs to clinch the coveted inter-college cricket trophy the final of which played today at University of Jammu grounds, here. Batting first after winning the toss, the last year’s runners-up, GCW Parade set a target of 112 runs for the loss of four wickets in the allotted 20 overs, which, in reply, Udhampur College could not chase and exhausted their quota of 20 overs for 106 runs losing five wickets. Nayana played brilliant innings of 42 runs including three boundaries while Ragini and Priyanka contributed 15 and five (not out) runs respectively. From Udhampur College, Mrinalini took two wickets for six runs in four overs. Sharda and Q Nisa shared apiece each. Later, chasing the target, Udhampur College made a good start with Mrinalini and Archana opening the innings. But the loss of Mrinalini’s wicket created troubles in the Udhampur College camp and two incoming batswomen lost their wickets cheaply. However, Nisa brought in hopes for the troublesome Udhampur innings making 10 runs off eight balls with two fours but it was too late to recover. Mrinalini remained the top scorer with 29-ball 30 runs studded with three hits to the fence while Archan contributed 22-ball 20 runs. Monica Manhas and Madhu took two wickets each for Parade College. The final was officiated by Raman Kumar and Vijay Kumar. In the final, Chief Vigilance Officer of the University of Jammu, Prof BPS Sehgal was special guest, who witnessed the match. Prominent among others present were Director Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, Prof Dhian Singh Bhau.
