| Chib indicates 50 new ITI’s in JK | | | Early Times Report Jammu February 06-Government today constituted a committee to suggest measures for bringing improvement in the functioning of ITI’s with focus on skill upgradation to cope up with burning demand of trained work force. The committee would submit its report within a month. The decision to this effect taken at a review meeting of the ITI’s under Public Private Partnership (PPP) and vocational Training Improvement Programme (VTIP) chaired by Minister for Technical Education, Mr. R. S. Chib. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister called upon reviving the technical institutions in the State so that the young boys and girls are trained in job-oriented trades and to enable them get employment for themselves on one hand and contribute towards the overall growth and development of the State on the other hand. The Minister said that Government has already moved a proposal for creation of about 50 new ITI’s to cover all the uncovered blocks of the State so that facilities of technical education reach to the remote and far-flung areas of the State. The Minister said that special thrust needs to be laid on upgradation of existing ITI’s by introducing various schemes under PMs Reconstruction Programme including “upgradation and Modernization of existing ITI’s” and “construction of Women ITI’s under these two schemes it has been envisaged to construct 10 women ITI’s besides replacing 102 obsolete trade units by modern and market friendly trades. Chib said five women wings have been created in the existing ITI’s ,and 10 new women ITI’s constructed in the State. This has raised the intake capacity of existing ITI’s to more than 9000 per year. The Minister said that as a sequel to skill upgradation measures, two new schemes “Vocational Training Improvement Programme (VTIP) and “upgradation of ITI’s through PPP” have been introduced in the technical education department for converting existing ITI”s, into “centres, of Excellence” in partnership with Industry, adding that Institute Management Committee (IMCs) for 22 ITI’s, stand constituted under these schemes. He said five more ITI’s are being brought under the purview of the scheme during the current financial year. He said 37 ITI’s affiliated to National Council for Vocational Training will also be covered under these schemes in a phased manner with the basic aim of imparting skill development to trainees for assumed placement in industries.
