Govt to set up ITC at Pampore

In an effort to give a much needed fillip to the industrial sector in the state, the government is coming up with a number of new projects.
Taking a step in this direction, government has decided to establish an International Trade Centre (ITC) at Pampore, an IT park in Kashmir valley besides two textile parks are to be set up at Ghatti and Govindsar in Kathua district.
If sources are to be believed government has given clearance for taking up an ambitious project of setting up ITC at Pampore, known for its world famous saffron.
The establishment of ITC could help the state level industrialists to exhibit their products besides a programme could be drawn for encouraging different companies in the country to display their products and goods during annual exhibition or trade fair, said official sources
According to sources, government is making all out efforts to woo major industrial houses of the country for setting up their units in the state.
A number of industrialists have shown interest in setting up units in Jammu but they are yet reluctant in establishing industries in Kashmir because of the ongoing turmoil, sources added
State Government has initiated measures for identifying and acquiring suitable land in various districts where clusters of industrial units could be set up, said sources
The units which are to be established would lay focus on areas like food processing, textiles, leather processing, handicrafts, handlooms, minerals, Information technology and many others.
One of the purposes of setting up these units was to exploit raw materials available in the backward areas of the state.
Sources said that a new shelf of techno-economic feasibility reports shall be prepared for this purpose and special purpose vehicles shall be created to implement such cluster schemes.
Government has also decided to set up one IT park in Kashmir after one such park had been set up in Bari Brahmna in Jammu.
Sources further said that major companies including Airmesh Communications have conveyed willingness to set up their units in these IT parks.
Besides this, two textile parks are to be set up at Ghatti and Govindsar in Kathua district. These textile parks would come up on 240 kanals of land with investment of Rs 337 crores.
As many as 56 units are to be set up which will generate employment for 4,000 people.
These people will be engaged in spinning, weaving, processing, garmenting and ancillary activities.
In Zakoora area of Srinagar, a scheme has been formulated for setting up silk-cum-textile park where small units could come up for rearing silk yarn and processing silk garments.
Since the demand for willow bats, manufactured in Kashmir, has shown an upward curve, the government has decided to set up two clusters of cricket bat units and wood based industry at Sangam in south Kashmir and at Bagh-i-Ali Mardan in Srinagar.
