| Business rivalry led to double murder at Narwal Mandi | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 06: A business rivalry between transporters-cum-commission agents was the reason behind the double murder at the Narwal Fruit Mandi here on Friday evening. Fatal stab wounds were inflicted on Gurnam Singh alias Manga of Sainik Colony and his nephew Rajinder Singh of Karan Bagh over the issue of loading a truck in the transport yard managed by the accused. While Gurnam had died on the spot, Rajinder succumbed to his injuries on way to CMC, Ludhiana, late Friday evening. Police sources said there were two yards at the fruit market. While in one, Gurnam and Rajinder were commission agents, in the other, the commission was being charged by the accused, the sources added. Gurnam and Rajinder were doing well and their every day income was more than that of the accused. This had led to the creation of differences between the two groups. Yesterday, when Gurnam and Rajinder sent a truck in the other yard for its loading, the accused refused. They then approached the accused to allow the loading of the truck and offered them commission. Sources said this led to heated exchanges between the two sides. In a fit of anger and probably to take control of both the yards, the accused allegedly attacked both of them with sharp-edged weapons, resulting in their death. Two of the accused, Ajit Singh alias Kakka and Milkha Singh, both residents of Chatha Farm, were arrested by police soon after the incident. At least five of the accused were absconding. Raids were being conducted to nab them too, the sources added. The bodies of both the victims were cremated today. Meanwhile, All J&K Transport Operators' Union has expressed serious concern over the double murder and appealed to transporters to concentrate on work and not indulge in fights.
