Natrang, NSD organizes workshop on ‘theatre-in-Education’

JAMMU, Feb 7: A workshop on “Theatre in Education’ was jointly organized by Natrang theatre and National school of Drama (NSD) here today. The main aim of the workshop was the introduce theatre in schools and was presided over by senior theatre director of the state Moti Lal Kemmu. The inauguration was done by Balwant Thakur in presence of Suwarn Rawat and Dipendra Rawat of NSD, New Delhi.
In his we come address, Balwant Thakur said that it has been the long cherished dream of
Natrang to have a 'Theatre-In-Education' workshop in Jammu. As an institution are committed to introduce theatre committed to introduce theatre in schools of the state and this workshop will go a long way in furtherance of our rarest initiative. He expressed gratitude of Ms. Aunradha Kapoor, Director National School of Drama and Mr. Latif Khatana the head of the 'Theatre-In-Education company, New Delhi for supporting the endeavors of Natrang.
Mr. Suwarn Rawat while underlining the need of introducing children to theatre said that it is by far the best way to open up a child, to help him/her shed his/her inhibitions. It helps them share their emotions and thoughts which otherwise in all probability would remain untapped for years to come. To help them become more adventurous, open to new ideas, to try out new and unexplored areas. Kemmu in his presidential address appreciated the efforts of Natrang and complimented for introducing the new concept of theatre-in- education in Jammu.
Twenty artists/teachers who are participating the workshop include Naveen Chopra, Neeraj Kant, Sumeet Sharma, Renu Sharma, Mohit Sharma, Rohit Verma, Tajasvi Sharma, Bodh Raj Sumit Sharma, Romilla Besnet, Gaurav Jamwal, Sona Mehar, Mohd. Yaseen, Pankush Verma, Rahul Singh, Bela Thappa, Amarpreep Kandhari, Rajani Bhatti, Suraj Prakash and Aman Thappa. The first session of the workshop was conducted by the renowned children's theatre expert Dr. Asha Singh of De1hi University.
Prominent among those who attended the inaugural function included, Mipam Otsal, Jugal Kaul, Suresh Kumar, Vijay Bhatt, Anil Tickoo, Nitish Arora, Sanjeev Gupta, and
Sartaj Singh.
