| Illegal water trade on rise | | | Early Times Report Kathua, Feb 7: District administration seemed handicapped to stop illegal supply of water being supplied in lieu of money by the some people to the residents of the Kathua, facing water scarcity. Some people have installed their own private bore wells to sale the water to people and charging near about handsome Rs 400 to 500 per 5000 litre, turned illegal supply of potable drinking water into a profitable business. Water was being served to humane, animals and plants as noble services but it seems essence legendry Indian culture died for the urge of money by some elements. Sources informed that the residents of the Kathua are facing the shortage of 4 lakh gallons of drinking water as in-spite of 27 lakh gallons requirement, PHE department is still far beyond to meet the actual requirement of water due to not having sufficient power to put restriction on the illegal supply of water and the installation of any private bore well under its jurisdiction. Illegal water suppliers using illegally electricity are openly selling the water by filling the private water tankers against charges of their choice. Water is mostly supplied to those areas where PHE almost has failed to avail drinking water facilities on regular basis. R K Angurana, Assistant Executive Engineer totally denied to have knowledge of running of such illegal water pumps which used as water supply business even PHE department has not authority to grant such permission and while it is mandatory for PHE to get the permission from the central ground water department to install the fresh bore wells.
