| 34 trapped in flash floods in Chenab | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 07: Thirty four people were trapped in flash floods caused by incessant rains in the ferocious Chenab river at Kansi Patta in Reasi this evening. Ten of them were drivers, while the others were labourers, who had gone in 10 tippers to the island in the river to collect sand. Official sources said as it rained heavily in upper reaches today, the Chenab was flooded all of a sudden as a result of which the island was cut off from the approach land at about 4.30 pm. All the 34 people were marooned as they did not get a chance to escape, the sources added. Sources said information in this regard reached police at about 5.30. Rescue teams were then despatched to Kansa Patta, who rescued two persons in a boat. Sources said as the winds blew at high velocity and water level continued to rise, the rescue operation was suspended for the night and it was decided to resume it Monday morning. Food and blankets had been provided to the marooned persons, the sources added. Sources said there was no danger to the trapped people on the island as the flooded waters won't be able to reach there because of its height.
