Former Minister PN Raju’s 2 sons among 4 dead in NH road accident

Udhampur July 7: In a gruesome tragedy four Congress activists including two sons of former minister PN Raju were killed while another got seriously injured when a Maruti car they were traveling in skidded off the road and rolled down into a deep gorge at Jakhani near Udhampur on Jammu-Srinager National Highway today.
Representing Ramban segment, PN Raju was one among the most prominent and loyalist National Conference leaders of Jammu province. Until mid-1990s when National Conference returned to power, Raju was party’s provincial president. He had died few years ago.
Police said that four persons including identified as Vijay Singh and his brother Shakti Singh Raju, sons of former Minister and Provincial President National Conference PN Raju, of Ramban were killed in the mishap.
The other two deceased have been identified as Sham Singh son of Faquir Chand and Hari Bhagat son of Inder Singh, both residents of Maitra, Ramban.
The grievously injured has been identified as Budhi Singh son of Shiv Ram, Block President Ramban, who has been admitted in District Hospital, Udhampur.
The occupants of the ill fated vehicle were on their way to Kathua from Ramban to attend marriage ceremony of Member of Parliament Choudhary Lal Singh’s daughter, said police sources
According to Police, the driver of Maruti car bearing registration number JK02AV-8720 probably failed to initiate a sharp curve which resulted into the tragic accident.
Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur Bashir Khan and Senior Superintendent of Police, Udhampur Surinder Gupta reached the spot minutes after the incident and personally supervised the rescue operation.
The dead bodies were taken out from the gorge and the injured was shifted to District hospital for treatment. After conducting the post mortem, all the bodies were later sent to Ramban.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee has expressed shock and sorrow over the death of four party workers of Ramban and injuries to Block President Ramban in a road accident.
All senior leaders of PCC have expressed deep shock over the tragedy and conveyed heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family members.
PCC Chief Prof Saifuddin Soz (MP) has conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for peace to the departed souls.
Other senior leaders who condoled the deaths include former Dy Chief Minsiter Mangat Ram Sharma, former MP Dharam Pal Sharma, MLC Amrit Malhotra, Hari Singh, Yash Pal Khajuria, Gurmukh Singh, Ghulam Haider Sheikh, Prem Sagar Aziz, MLC Ravinder Sharma, Amolak Singh, Kanta Bhan, Mula Ram, MLA Indu Pawar, Swaran Lata, Baldev Sharma and MLA Ramban Ashok Dogra.
President, District Congress Committee, Ramban and former MLA Bharat Gandhi, has also expressed deep shock over the tragedy and conveyed condolence to the bereaved families.
