| MP Lal Singh’s election challenged | | HC grants week’s time for filing objections | | Early Time Report JAMMU, Feb 8 : Jammu and Kashmir High Court, Jammu Wing today granted one week time for filling objections subject to payment of rupees two thousand with regard to an election petition seeking declaring election of Member of Parliament from Udhampur-Doda Parliamentary Constituency, Choudhary Lal Singh as void. Justice Sunil Hali, in an election petition filed by Bhim Singh, chairman Jammu & Kashmir National Panthers Party challenging the election of Choudhary Lal Singh of Congress declared elected, directed Deputy Advocate General, B R Chandan appearing for the Returning Officer from Udhampur constituency to file objection within a week’s time. In the election petition, Bhim Singh who was one of the candidates has challenged the election of Choudhary Lal Singh from Udhampur Parliamentary Constituency, prayed for declaring the said election as void and seeking direction to election commission to hold fresh election to the house of people to the Udhampur constituency. In the election petition besides other grounds, the petition challenging the direction of election commission of India by the use of EVMs (electronic voting machines). According to the petitioner this system has already been declared unconstitutional in several democratic countries including Germany, Holland and even in the some states to the USA. Deputy AG BR Chandan appeared for the Returning Officer for the Udhampur constituency seeks further time to file objections. Justice Sunil Hali granted one week’s further time for filling objections subject to payment of Rs two thousands as costs to be paid to the Advocate HC Jalmeria appeared for the petitioner and clarified that this shall be last and final opportunity.
