VC BGSBU Inaugurates Vacation Training Program:

Rajouri, Feb 8: In an endeavor to create interest in biological sciences and foster concern for biodiversity conservation among the school children, Centre for Biodiversity Studies of the BGSB University which has been identified as Regional Resource Agency (RRA) for DNA Clubs in J&K by Dept. of Biotechnology DBT kicked off 2nd Vacation Training Programme (VTP) in Rajouri. Masud Ahmed Choudhary, Vice Chancellor of the University inaugurated the programme in ceremony that was attended among others by Registrar BGSBU, Deans and Heads of Departments besides scores students and trainees representing all the three regions viz. ladakh, Kashmir and Jammu of the State.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor Masud Ahmed Choudhary said that the aim of the students pursuing academic courses must not be getting government job only, and they should be knowledge oriented. He said that the students of the present era should opt for such subjects as their career which may not become burden in coming days. He suggested the students to go for Science and Technical subjects which will curtain the problem of unemployment.
Sponsored by the DBT, Government of India, the programme was launched in the year 2007-08 for creating awareness regarding bioresources and biodiversity, its management and conservation and biological sciences as a whole among school children, through a network of ten DNA Clubs established in Nodal Schools belonging to Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh regions of J&K.
Appreciating the efforts of Centre for Biodiversity Studies and the RRA Project Team, Masud Choudhary said that the programme will help trainees from all three regions of the states in a big way. Dean School of Biosciences & Biotechnology Prof. AK Koul congratulated RRA team headed by Dr. Ashfaq Ahmed Zarri for their efforts in organizing the VTP.
Dr. Sudha Jala Kohli, Research Associate of RRA for DNA Clubs compared the programme while Prof. Asghar Ali, Dean School of Mathematical Science presented vote of thanks.
