EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 9: Public Welfare Organisation (PWO), Jammu under the aegis of Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India, today organized National Environment Awareness Campaign 2009-10 on Climatic Change at Government Higher Secondary School (Boys) Bishnah. Besides staff members, students of the institute participated in the programme wherein School Principal Ashok Sharma. Speakers on the occasion delivered lectures on the subject and explained in detail the factors responsible for the climatic change which include continental drift, volcanoes, ocean currents, excess use of fossil fuels, massive deforestation, mining, land fills, burning of vegetation, coal mines, excess use of fertilizers and natural gas fields. They impressed upon the public in general and student community in particular to rise to the occasion and discharge their active role in saving the environment by way of plantation and use of solar energy Besides school teachers Romesh Kumar, Nirmal Singh, Dewaker Sharma, Kuldeep Raj, and Kuldeep Kumar, WWF representative DN Hangloo and Office bearer of PWO Vinod Pandita also spoke on the occasion. President PWO, Soni Pandita also attended the programme.
