| JMC books 35 shopkeepers | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 9:Continuing its drive against the adulteration in food items, an intensive checking of the food articles was undertaken by a team of food inspectors headed by the Health Officer Jammu Municipal Corporation at Bus stand and surrounding areas. During the checking, about 150 food establishments comprising Tea stalls, Fruit Juice corners, provision stores, restaurants and dhabas were checked extensively. In the drive, 35 offenders were booked under the provisions of PFA Act 1954 and J&K Municipal Corporation Act 2000. An amount of Rs 6800/- was realized as fine on spot from the defaulters. The team also destroyed about 40 kgs of stale food and 70 pieces of chipped crockery while 15 kgs of polythene bags were also seized. Meanwhile, the Enforcement Wing of JMC led by the enforcement Officer carried out an anti-encroachment drive and removed encroachments in various aprts of the city including BC Road, Old Rehari, New Plot, sarwal, Janipur, Roop Nagar, Barnai and Muthi areas. During the drive goods placed on roadsides, footpaths and pavements by the shopkeepers as well as vendors. Sign Boards, Umbrellas, Benches, buckets, Stools, Crates were confiscated. Besides this, the Building Operation controlling Authority of JMC examined 95 building permission cases and cleared 85 of them in a meeting held under the chairmanship of Commissioner JMC. The building permission cases cleared today will generate revenue of Rs 13 lakhs for the Corporation. Apart from Joint Commissioner (A) and senior Town Planner JMC, representatives of PDD, PHE and Town Planning attended the meeting.
