| RJMLS seeks promotion of Urdu language | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 9: Rasa Javedani Memorial Literary Society (RJMLS) president and Head of Department Urdu, Shohab Inayat Malik today called on the Minister for Higher Education, Abdul Gani Malik and apprised him about the present situation of Urdu language in the State. During the meeting, Shohab alleged that after partition successive Governments had neglected the Urdu language in the State because of which almost all of the official work in government offices is being done in English language. He further told the Minister that despite the Urdu enjoins the official status in the State, there is no Urdu Academy and no sign boards of any office is in Urdu. He demanded same status to Urdu language in the State which Punjabi language enjoins in the State He further demanded that Urdu be made compulsory subject upto Class 10th, it should be made mandatory in government jobs, all sign boards of government offices be written in Urdu, IAS and KAS officers should be given training of language for at least six months, Urdu University on the pattern of Maulana Azad National Urdu University be established in Jammu and Kashmir and Urdu teachers be provided in all primary, high and higher secondary schools and colleges of Jammu and Kashmir State. The Ministers gave patient hearing to Shohab and assured him that the state government would make all-out efforts to restore the past glory of Urdu language.
