| Governor, Jora express shock over Gulmarg avalanche incident | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 9: Governor N N Vohra has expressed profound shock and grief over the tragic death of seventeen soldiers and injuries to several others as a result of a snow avalanche in the Gulmarg area yesterday. In his message, the Governor expressed his sincere sympathy with the bereaved families and prayed for eternal peace to the departed souls. He has also written a personal letter to the Northern Army Commander, Lt. Gen. B. S. Jaswal, to convey his sympathy to the families of those who have lost their lives. The Governor also prayed for speedy recovery of the soldiers injured in the incident. Meanwhile, Minister for Tourism and Culture, Nawang Rigzin Jora also expressed grief and sorrow over the death of soldiers of High Altitude Warfare School that take place at Kilanmarg-Gulmarg due to heavy snow avalanche last morning. Jora has conveyed his condolences with the bereaved families. He prayed for eternal peace to the departed souls and early recovery for injured ones. The Minister appreciated the efforts of the officials of Tourism Department for playing commendable role with other departments to assist in rescue operations of effected persons in the area. He asked the employees working at Gulmarg to remain vigilant in future also and help the tourists during eventualities.
