| Stranded passengers assured of full Govt support | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 9: Minister of State for R&B and Medical Education, Javaid Ahmad Dar today visited General Bus-Stand Jammu to take a personal assessment of the condition of the Kashmir bound stranded passengers. Chairperson, J&K State Commission for Women, Shamima Firdous, Vice Chairman, Pahari Advisory Board, Mushtaq Ahmad Bukhari, Legislators, Afaq Ahmad and Rashid Qureshi, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Pawan Kotwal and other officers accompanied the Minister. The stranded passengers narrated their difficulties before the Minister and sought their transportation back to their homes. They also complained of difficulties on account of accommodation and financial resources. The Minister assured them that Beacon Authorities are working round the clock to open the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and with weather further improving the task is getting easier. He said the Government is sensitive about the plight of the stranded passengers and hoped that within a day or so things would come to order. Meanwhile, Advisor to Chief Minister, Devinder Rana, also visited Bus Stand Jammu and interacted with hundreds of passengers stranded in the wake of the closure of National Highway, due to intermittent rains and snowfall. Rana said that all efforts are being made to clear the Highway for vehicular traffic and assured passengers that in case the road continues to remain closed, alternate arrangements would be explored. The Advisor asked the Deputy Commissioner, Jammu to ensure stay and free langer facilities for the stranded passengers and to personally monitor the arrangements so that no inconvenience is caused to them. He also stressed the need for maintaining health and hygiene and called for stationing of Health Officer of Jammu Municipal Corporation at the site. The Advisor also directed the SHOs and the Revenue Officials to prepare a serial wise list of the passengers, who are stranded in Jammu.
