| Forest land being fenced to check encroachments: Altaf | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 9: To check encroachments on the forest land, the Government is contemplating to spend over Rs 5 crore under Compensatory Afforestation Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA) on the fencing and other preventive measures in Jammu district. This was stated at a review meeting, held here today under the chairmanship of Minister for Forests, Mian Altaf Ahmed. The Minister said the encroachments needs to be checked at all costs and for this fencing and channeling would be made. He further said that initiatives taken by the Government could succeed only with the active co-operation of people living near forest areas. It was told in the meeting that the Department has not received many complaints regarding the encroachment during the past one year. The meeting was attended, among others, by Commissioner/Secretary, Forest, Shantmanu, Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Director Forest Protection Force, Lal Chand and senior officers of Forest Department.
