| Azad advocates for unity among global communities through language | | Adbi Markaz Kamraz | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 9: Laying greater focus on a language qualifying for universal acknowledgement, Union health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said that any dialect that brings more people for closer interaction globally is always accepted. This he said in reference to English being the strongest medium universally that binds more people of more countries among themselves for an easy interaction. “English holds the priority universally as a language easily understood and assimilated by the communities of the various countries and hence is the most easiest source of reaching to more people globally,” said Ghulam Nabi Azad. He was speaking at a function organised by Adbi Markaz Kamraz under the aegis of All India Kashmiri Writers Conference held at Abhinav theatre in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages. He also crowned Urdu as a language that follows closely behind English that too is widely accepted and recognized among many of the counties. “Urdu follows in the league that too has many people in various countries knowing the language that help in constructing good relations,” he said citing the example of India-Pakistan dialogue vis-à-vis Kashmir often being hotter, and somehow getting diluted later on dining table when Urdu becomes the medium for exchanging pleasantries among the debaters. The Indian Diaspora too suffering from the barrier of the language acting as an impediment among the people of any two states, he cited examples such Tamilian, Maharashtrian or a Keralite failing to understand the Kashmiri and the vice versa. The Union Minister however spoke quite high for the need of resurrecting the local dialects to its pristine glory and in the process divulged on his observation for an inclusive preservation of the local dialects too that have the origin from the respective mother tongues. “This does not contradicts to the vital prerequisite of preserving the local dialect of the state or a region that has an imbibed essence of the mother land deeply imbibed into it,” said Azad adding that any language, be it Dogri, Kashmiri, Gojri, Boti, or Sheeni, needs to be glorified in broader perspectives to save the cultural ethos of the motherland. Later, qualifying the Writers’ Conference’s basic agenda of Kashmiri language exploring challenges and possibilities of expansion in Jammu, he pinpointed nine out ten districts here having Kashmiri speaking people living in the areas and thus expanding the culture. On various speakers’ demand to include Kashmiri language at different public places and important installations besides making it compulsory in schools at higher secondary level, Azad laid emphasis on the need to instill its basics from the primary ranks for an adaptation at higher levels. Earlier the speakers on the occasion who rendered many poetic and literary performances also highlighted the need of including Kashmiri at Jammu railway station, airports and other important installations of the state for quick acquaintance of the Kashmir knowing people. This had also included demand for a Kashmiri folk lore studies to be incorporated at Varisty level besides many other things to which the Union Minister gave patient hearing. Earlier, President Adbi Markaz Kamraz, Dr. Aziz Hajni gave a brief introduction of his organisation and said that the conference had been organised so as to sensitize people about Kashmiri as a language. “The fact that Kashmiri was being spoken by 40-45 per cent of people in Jammu shows how important it is to promote the language in this region as well,” Hajni said. He also said that one of the main objectives of holding the Conference was to pass some Kashmiri centric resolutions for furthering the cause of Kashmiri as a constitutionally recognized language. Speaking on the occasion Secretary Cultural Academy, Zafar Iqbal Manhas announced that the long cherished dream of setting up of Tehzeeb Mahal at Srinagar would become a reality in 2010 as the President of the Cultural Academy, the Hon’ble Chief Minister, was taking a keen interest in this project. Zafar also said that for overall development of art, culture and languages, the Cultural Academy would like to open offices at district levels. About Kashmiri language he said that the Cultural Academy was already doing its best for promotion of all the languages of the state and Kashmiri too was getting its due. Besides many luminaries, Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather and R&B Minister G M Saroori were also present on the occasion.
