Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 9: As fresh snowfall yesterday occured in the Trikuta Hills, housing the holy cave of Mata Vaishno Devi, and other higher reaches across the region, two pilgrims, including an old
woman, died in bone-chilling cold en route to the bhavan late Monday night.
Police sources said Suman Kumar (57) of Gandhi Market, Ambala Cantonment, Haryana, reached Bhavan along with his family members at about 11.45 pm Monday. As it was too cold, he started shivering, the sources added.
He was then taken to the dispensary in the Bhavan premises where he died at about 12.15 am. Parvati (78) too died of cold at Adh Kunwari. She hailed from Maharashtra.
Sources said after completing legal formalities, both the bodies were handed over to their family members for last rites. In other hilly areas also, the fury of the biting cold
continued to agonise people. The plains were, however, experiencing rains for the past four days.
