| Restore lost credibility by setting ‘Truth Commission’, KPs to CM | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 10:
United Kashmir Pandit Conference (UKPC) an amalgam of several Kashmiri Pandit organizations held an emergency meeting under chairmanship of Vir Saraf. Current socio-political and administrative high handednesses against Kashmiri Pandits were discussed threadbare. Vir Saraf asked constituent members to get ready for a long drawn agitation against the discrimination being meted out to displaced community. He reminded members that government is turning deaf ear to the genuine demands of Kashmiri Pandits in exile for the last twenty two years. He reiterated that bond the employment seekers are to submit while filing the employment form must be scraped immediately as it signals the return of tyrant government-administration for displaced people. Vir Saraf warned government and said that the bond is against the fundamental-Human Rights of a free citizen of a democratic country. He cited various international treaties and agreements which are being violated by enforcing this bond on the displaced community. He said that government must stop treating displaced people as bonded slaves.
Sunil Fotedar ridiculed the Chief Minister for setting up enquiry commission for every death in the valley to appease a section of society over there. He asked the Chief Minister to set up the “Truth Commission” which will look into the reasons of genocide of ethnic minority of Kashmir and their displacement. This commission must be headed by a sitting Supreme Court Judge. He asked the Chief Minister to be un-biased and non-communal in his approach. He said that the credibility of the present government will be restored only if a “Truth Commission” is set up. Surinder Bhat asked the government to increase the cash relief to Relief holders from Rs.33/day/soul to Rs.100/day/soul immediately. He lambasted the government for its insensitiveness towards the displaced community. Members also were aghast with ineffectiveness of the apex committee. Members demanded that either apex committee formed by the government must perform as per the aspirations of the displaced community or must resign en-mass. Apex committee members must not behave like government agents. Members also demanded that those people who do not fall into the Job category because of age bar be given a compensation of Rs 25 lac so that they can live a dignified life. Members also said that government must draw up a blue print of rehabilitation for all the 75000 displaced families instead trying to rehabilitate in compartmental ways. Among others who spoke were V. Sathu, Rakesh Roshan, Sanjay Chowgami, Rohit ji, Sanjay Kothari, Ajay Kumar and others.
