| Workshop on water harvesting organised | | |

JAMMU, Feb 10: Central Ground Water Board (CGWB), North Western Himalayan Region, Jammu today organised day-long workshop on “Rooftop Rainwater Harvesting and Spring Recharge” here.
The workshop was inaugurated by Ashok Angurana, Principal Secretary PHE & I&FC Department while Dr S C Dhiman, Member (SML), CGWB presided over the function. Dalip Bakshi, Chief Engineer PHE Jammu and R K Gupta, Chief Engineer CWC and Ashwani Kumar Sharma, Chief Engineer RTIC Jammu graced the occasion.
The workshop was organised under the guidance of Arun Kumar, Regional Director CGWB NWHR, Jammu. The workshop was coordinated by S K Juneja, Scientist-D of CGWB.
The speakers laid stress on the need for rooftop rainwater harvesting and spring protection in the state.
In his inaugural address, Angurana emphasized the need for rooftop rainwater harvesting and spring protection. He said that the need of the hour is to think about the household water security and conjunctive use of surface water, ground water and rainwater.
During his speech, Dr S C Dhiman highlighted the importance of implementing rooftop rainwater harvesting in hilly states like Jammu and Kashmir. He pointed out that the springs and rivulets are lifeline of people dwelling in hilly areas and reiterated that the traditional recharge structures to be revitalized with latest scientific developments.
Arun Kumar, in his speech, said that introduced the theme of the workshop and stressed on importance of water harvesting in the State. He also gave a brief regarding the role of rooftop rain water harvesting and spring recharge in boosting the economy of the state.
On this occasion, a booklet consisting of detailed methodology on rooftop rain water harvesting was also released.
