| Rehbar-e-Zirat appointed to work in Panchayat Halqas | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb10: On receiving reports that agricultural graduates refused to move to the fields in the rural areas for working with the farmers, State Government decided to post 3300 agricultural graduates, appointed under Rehbar-e-Zirat scheme in each Panchayat Halqa. As such their services were not being utilized for improving farming practices and production. Minister for Agriculture, G.H.Mir stated that government raised wages of the graduates, appointed under Rehbar-e-Zirat scheme by Rs.1500 per month to motivate them to serve in the villages where their services were needed. He said that now onwards each agricultural graduate, appointed under the scheme would get Rs.3, 000 per month. He said a recent survey revealed that majority of these graduates had yet to move to the villages, government has decided to post each of the employees in each Panchayat Halqa to work with farmers so as to develop meaningful link between them and the concerned departments for popularizing, implementing and monitoring the progress of various agricultural related schemes. Regarding 3500 agricultural graduates still unemployed Mir said that he had submitted a plan to government for adjusting them in the government services. He said his plan was being processed through various suggestions and were being sought from other experts. He hoped that the government may come up with some plan of providing them gainful employment so that their services could be utilized for ensuring better production from the existing agricultural fields. Mir said that he had mooted the idea with them but these agricultural graduates were not interested in establishing their units as they were not sure whether their units would run on profit or not. He said that in fact the concept of self-employment schemes had yet to be accepted as an alternative to the government services by the unemployed youths.
