| Constitute commission to assess loss of Jammu migrants: TAPF | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 10
Terrorism Affected Peoples Forum (TAPF) has reiterated its demand of constitution of a high level commission to assess the losses suffered by the people of Kishtwar, Doda, Ramban, Reasi, Kathua, Rajouri and Poonch districts in Jammu during two decades long militancy. “During the period of terrorism in Jammu province people have suffered badly in the hilly region of Jammu province. The Union as well as State governments should constitute a high level commission to assess the losses suffered to affected people,” Dr Mumtaz Hussain Bukhari, convenor of the front told reporters. Bukhari further demanded a special economic package should be provided to these people and reservations be given to their wards in the educational institutions especially in professional colleges. “Since the inception of terrorism in the State there was no security arrangement in these areas. People were forced to migrate from their areas, More than 10,000 families have migrated from the hilly areas of Jammu province due to terrorism since 1990,” he said, adding that the government should announce adequate financial assistance to militancy affected people of Jammu region. He disclosed that the front has started enlisting the loss of lives and properties in the terrorism affected areas. Besides, he also demanded that all the pending cases under SRO 143 be settled immediately and Special Police Officers (SPOs) be regularized as they have played an important role in eliminating the terrorism in Jammu province. “Compensation should be given to the migrant families as per Kashmiri Migrants and Rs 3 lakhs be given to those who have lost their family members in militancy,” he further demanded.
