| Sham for effective monitoring of health schemes | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 10 Minister for Health, Horticulture and Floriculture, Sham Lal Sharma has stressed the need for effective monitoring of all health schemes to avail their benefits adequately. This was stated by the Minister while reviewing the progress of various schemes of Health and Family Welfare Department and National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) at a high level meeting of officers here today. Appreciating the performance of the department during the past one year, the Minister asked all concerned to put in their best efforts to further improve the healthcare facilities. He said that the government has already taken steps to address the problems of doctors and para-medics and to improve the working conditions in the health institutions, adding that further improvements would be brought in the coming months. Sharma said that OPD/IPD in most of the rural health institutions, on an average has increased from 18 to 30 per cent which has resulted in easing 16 to 17 per cent load on Tertiary Care Centres during the past one year, indicating an overall improvement in the healthcare adding that “we have to maintain the tempo of improvement in future too”. Health Minister directed both the Directors, Health Services, Jammu as well as Kashmir to furnish uninterrupted information about the achievements of all blocks, duly authenticated by the Block Medical Officers and Chief Medical Officers. In order to ensure close vigil on the institutions and to meet the emergencies during the night hours, the Minister issued instructions that all Block Medical Officers and Medical Superintendents will ensure their presence at their headquarters and conduct regular tours at least three days in a week to personally meet the patients in health institutions and to address their problems. The Officers should submit their monthly tour diaries to the Director Health Services. The deviation to the instructions will be viewed seriously and erring officers shall have to face action under law, the Minister added. To check the growth of nursing homes, the Minister asked the Director Health Services, Jammu to conduct inspection of all such establishments within three days and initiate action against those not fulfilling the mandatory norms and formalities. The Minister also asked for proper utilization of services of those doctors who have undergone specialized trainings in different faculties. Principal Secretary, Health & Medical Education, RK Jerath, Director Family Welfare, Kulbushan Pandotra, Director Health Services, Jammu, Jasbir Singh, Controller, Drugs and Food Organziation, Satish Gupta, Chief Medical Officers, Medical Superintendents, Block Medical Officers, officers of ISM and NRHM Departments were present in the meeting.
