| Beyond ‘shameless’ Graffiti: Education Dept forgets ethics | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 10: Once again, trying to shoo away its primary responsibility of fastening educational ethics on the grass root levels, the Education Department has tried for an easy escapism by glorifying the superfluous. The banner heads and bigger media displays of Education system of the state very well auguring with the satisfaction of requirements of the state of art education here have a very unfortunate and miserable history in the rural interiors. Many of government run schools there do not even produce a single student having ever qualified for a merit to deserve as having been passed with basic minimum requirement of the marks. Ironically, the State Education Department preferred to maintain utter silence over such aspects. For instance, only one student of Government Higher Secondary School, Sangaldan in district Ramban managed to qualify the matriculation exams for academic session 2008-09. Wittingly, the parents of 94 students, who had appeared for exams, were in fix and could not understand the quality of education being given by the department. And what to talk of the teachers available in these remote areas that seldom even return to attend to their jobs and instead remain glued to the possibilities of getting themselves transferred to promising havens. Connected to it is rumor on transfer policies also which the department claims to have made hassles free and smooth. Attachment of various teachers at various places is the mode of jugglery enacted by the department over its transfer methodology that too is hurting the system down to its naval. The glorifying example of such practice is that the department, in order to appease its blue-eyed fellows makes an arrangement of attachment of these people at the prized positions, thus satiating their needs of getting transferred to their favorite places. For the purpose, the education department spending exorbitant money in putting up advertisements in this regard is a mockery. “It is somehow a maneuvering done by Information department along with the Education Department that substantial amount is being siphoned off from the state exchequer in displaying bigger advertisement in the media for which there stands no need,” said a senior official in Education department pleading anonymity. The official pointed out, “It is the prime responsibility of any ruling regime to provide best possible infrastructures in Government run educational institutions. The basic purpose of highlighting achievements in terms of promotions given to teachers and lecturers, their regularizations etc is just to get limelight in media” Besides, the State Information Department is also appeasing only the chosen few in forwarding these advertisements which is another major deception that it does to eat into the state exchequer. Several attempts to contact, Minister for School Education, Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed proved futile as he did not respond to repeated phone calls.
