| Caught in avalanche, 19 located, all safe | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 10: The 19 labourers of the state forest corporation (SFC), who had Tuesday gone missing in an avalanche followed by a snowstorm in the far-flung Massu Paddar area of Kishtwar, were today located in Massu village. "All of them are safe as they had managed to run to safety," police sources said. A total of 43 labourers were engaged by SFC at Massu Paddar for the extraction and transportation of timber. While they were doing their work Tuesday morning, an avalanche followed by heavy snowstorm had occured in the area. While 24 of them were rescued by a police party from Atholi police station with the help of locals in the afternoon, the remaining 19 remained had remained untraced till late last evening when the rescue operation was called off due to severe cold and the fear of more avalanches. Sources said when the cops and locals started making searches for them today, they were able to locate all of them. They had taken shelter in the houses of some people at Massu, the sources added. Sources said there was over 7 ft snow in Massu Paddar and the nearby Machail area. The far-flung Kishtwar areas continued to experience fresh snowfall today, the sources added. Sources said people living in Massu Paddar, Paddar, Warwan, Dachchan and other remote Kishtwar areas had been asked to stay indoors in view of the bone-chilling cold. The fury of the biting cold continued to agonise people in these areas.
