| Centre sanctions 500 Creche Centres to State: Sakina | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 11:
The Centre has approved for opening of 500 additional Crèche Centers for Jammu and Kashmir, said the Minister for Social Welfare, Sakina Itoo while taking a review of the functioning of Social Welfare Advisory Board, here on Thursday. The Minister said that 450 such centers, under Rajiv Gandhi National Crèche Scheme are already functioning in the State. She said the main objective of these Centers is to provide nutrition and pre-primary education to the children of 0-6 years, adding that opening of the new crèche centers would benefit more children of the State. Sakina said that Rs 5 crore would be utilized for setting up of these centers, while Rs.42000 would be expended on nutrition and pre-primary education during the current financial year. The new crèche centers would also provide employment opportunities to many un-employed educated youth, the Minister added. The Social Welfare Minister said that the Government has decided to revive the vocational training programme for women in the State through Non-Government Organizations (NGO). She said this scheme is fully funded by Union Government, adding that Central Government has given its approval for setting up of 40 vocational centers during current financial year. She said each centre would acquaint 25 trainees in different crafts for which a grant of Rs.1.75 lakh to Rs.3.75 lakh, which includes stipend at the rate of Rs.150 per month to each trainee. The Minister said under Condensed Course of Education Programme, the Government of India has allocated 110 courses to the State under which the Social Welfare Board provides financial assistance to Non Government Organizations for conducting 2 year Primary, Middle and Matric Level condensed courses for female school drop outs in the age group of 15-35 years adding that one year course is also available for Matric fail candidates. Secretary Social Welfare Advisory Board, Dr. Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din, various NGO’s of Jammu division and other senior officers of the Social Welfare Department were present in the meeting.
