| NC leaders welcome Omar’s proposal | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 12
If the recent surrender policy proposal of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah draws widespread criticism here, the ruling National Conference (NC) leaders have described it as a “good initiative” to bring back the misguided youth to mainstream. They said that unless concrete steps are not taken for rehabilitation of misguided youth are made; no long lasting solution of Kashmir imbroglio is possible. In a joint statement, Brij Mohan Sharma, senior vice president NC Jammu province, Ram Pal, former minister and chairman SC BC Cell NC, Kashmira Singh, former MLA and Gurdeep Singh Sasan, senior NC leader have appreciated the initiative taken by Omar Abdullah and said that the parties who are differing with policies of the Chief Minister should remember the historical role of National Conference right from 1947 which stood for unity and integrity of State with Union of India and have always played positive role. They further said that thousand of NC leaders, MLAs and workers have sacrificed their lives during the dark era of militancy. “The initiative taken by Chief Minister should be seen in positive prospect keeping in view over all interest of the nation,” they said. Meanwhile, NC leader and contested candidate from Banihal, Sajjad Shaheen has welcomed the statement of Union Minister P Chidambaram on the proposal of Omar for giving amnesty to the Kashmiri militants in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) willing to surrender. He said that the Chief Minister has raised the issue in Chief Ministers’ conference in Delhi and advocated the surrender & rehabilitation policy for return of the Kashmiri youths who had gone over to PoK. Describing it as an “appreciable” and “historic step”, he appreciated Chief Minister for demanding revocation of Armed Force Special Power Act (AFSPA) from the less effected districts of the State.
