The department of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution ( CAPD) known for its scandals and scams in the state of Jammu and Kashmir has landed in an other trouble in the frontier border district Rajouri. A big scam of fake ration cards prepared by the officials of the department has surfaced in border district Rajouri for which the department has initiated an internal probe itself with an aim to avoid the external interference . The police is also investigating the matter separately , however, the findings of both the probes are yet awaited .
Giving details, well placed sources in the department said that Rajouri police is investigating a matter related to fake and fictitious ration cards prepared by the officials of the CAPD in frontier border district Rajouri . Additional SP Rajouri police Mohammad Shabir when contacted confirmed to the “Early Times” that a matter related to the fake ration cards was brought to his notice by some people and same has been referred to SHO Rajouri for investigations . Sources said , the department has also initiated an internal probe in to the matter , however, the findings have been kept secret . While confirming the reports of fake ration cards scandal , Assistant Director CAPD Rajouri Kewel Krishan said that a matter has come to his knowledge from a particular area and he was probing it . However, Director CAPD Jammu, when contacted , he expressed his unawareness about any such report .
Not only this, sources said that in the twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri there are reports of large scale scam of fake ration cards prepared by the officials of the department . And the department has been collecting thousands of quintals of ration and other food grains for this region for the past several years against these fake and fictitious ration cards . This is said to be one of the major reasons responsible for the shortage of ration in the state of Jammu and Kashmir .
Sources said, the condition of ration supply was worst in the border district Poonch . The most of the ration meant for the rural and far flung areas is mutually distributed by the concerned dealers and the officials of the department. And the general consumers are satisfied on the pretext of the ‘no supply’ from Jammu . It is pertinent to mention here that few months back, PDP MLA from Darhal Zullifkar Ch. in Rajouri district had revealed in a press conference that he would expose large scale bungling in the department of CAPD Rajouri but went silent few days later raising several eyebrows towards his sudden silence.
Sources said the irregularities are not only in the supply of ration , there are reports of department charging money from the government in the name of Pony porters used for the transportation of the ration in the far flung areas having no road connectivity . “ Fact is that not a single pony porter was ever used in the twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri”, said an official source wishing not to be named . He said that the practice is going in the region for decades together with out any check . “ The transportation of the ration and other food grains is a big scandal in the twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri”, he added .
