78 vehicles challaned, Rs 25200 realized as fine

JAMMU, Feb 13:

On the directions of Transport Commissioner, J&K, Jammu, Motor Vehicle Inspectors of Regional Transport Office, Jammu under the supervision of RTO/ ARTO, Jammu conducted a surprise checking on National Highway at Nagrota today with regard to over-charging of fare by the operators of Taxi, Maxi Cabs and other passenger vehicles plying from Jammu to Srinagar.
During the checking, 200 vehicles were checked, out of which 78 were challaned/ compounded and 15 vehicle operators were found over-charging fare. An amount of Rs 25200 was recovered from the offenders.
The Regional Transport Officer, Jammu has warned the drivers/ operators of passenger vehicles not to overcharge and any vehicle operator found violating the laws will be dealt with stern action.
