| PM to raise terror and trade issues with EU | | |
Helsinki, Oct 11 Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is expected to share with the European Union the evidence of Pakistan’s involvement in the July 11 Mumbai blasts besides raising the issue of non-trade barriers with the 25-nation grouping during his four-day visit to the Finnish capital.
According to Indian officials here, Dr Singh might also draw the EU's attention towards the dangers of clandestine proliferation as was amply demonstrated by North Korea by carrying out an atomic test on Monday in gross violation of its obligations under the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). India has maintained that North Korea has been clandestinely receiving assistance from Pakistan in its nuclear programme.
Dr Singh, leading a high-level delegation, arrives here tonight from London after a successful visit to Britain. From the airport, he will drive straight to the government Guest House, Kalastajatorpantie, where he will stay.
Tomorrow, the Prime Minister will be hosted by his Finnish counterpart Matti Vanhanen on a bilateral visit to Finland. The two leaders will have a one-on-one meeting, followed by delegation- level talks on a wide range of bilateral issues as well as international developments. The two leaders will also address a joint press conference after their talks.
The Indian officials said the talks between the two Prime Ministers would cover issues such as cooperation in the fields of trade, economy and information technology. They will also discuss relations between India and the EU.
In the afternoon, the Prime Minister will deliver his key-note address to the India-EU Business Summit. The Finnish Prime Minister will host a banquet in honour of the Prime Minister tomorrow night.
On October 13, the Prime Minister will lead the Indian delegation at the 7th India-EU Summit. His delegation will include Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath.
The EU delegation will be headed by the Finnish Prime Minister, in his capacity as the Chairman of the 25-nation trading bloc. The EU side will be represented also by European Commission President Jose Manuel Borroso, High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy Javier Solana, Finnish Minister for Foreign Affairs Erkki Tuomioja and others.
The Finnish Prime Minister will host a working lunch for his Indian counterpart before the two leaders hold a joint press conference.
In the evening, the Prime Minister will call on Finnish President Tarja Halonen at the Presidential Palace. He will emplane for New Delhi on October 14 morning.
