Govt to strive for inclusion of Gojri in 8th Schedule: Mian Altaf

RAJOURI, Feb 14: Minister for Forest, Environment and Ecology Mian Altaf Ahmed has said that Government would strongly pursue the demand for inclusion of Gojri language in Eighth Schedule to brighten the prospects for its development.
The Minister was speaking at a day-long Gojri Cultural Programme, organised by Anjuman-e-Gojri Zaban-wa-Adab Dharamsal, Kalakote Rajouri, in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and languages, here today.
Zaffar Manhas, secretary, JKAACL, prominent Gujar literary personalities and other senior officials of the Academy were also present on the occasion.
Describing Gojri as one of the major language of the state, the Minister called upon the community members to work for its enrichment and development. He said that the Government would extend every possible help in this regard adding that the Government would also project the demand of including Gojri language in the Eighth schedule.
Acknowledging the dependence of Tribal on the forests, he assured the community that Forest Department would extend its full cooperation to the people associated with sheep and other domestic animal raring activities. He also asked the community to reciprocate by helping in preservation of forest cover.
Referring to the Forest Policy proposed by the Government, Mian Altaf Ahmed said that the draft has been posted on the web for seeking opinion from experts and general public. He said the opinion of people living near forests would also be sought and for this purpose awareness camps would be held in both Kashmir and Jammu Divisions, during next month.
Speaking on the occasion, Zaffar Manhas assured that the Academy would extend every help for the development of Gojri culture and language.
Earlier, young artists and school children of the area presented colourful cultural programme, including skits and plays in Gojri language. The speakers also presented papers on the works of Israel Assar.
