| Gramin-cum-Shivratri Mela concluded at Majalta | | |
EARLY TIMES REPORT UDHAMPUR, Feb 14:
A Maha Shivratri-cum-Gramin Mela was held at Khooneshwar Shiv Temple, Khoon, Majalta, in which thousands of people participated. The Mela was organized by Destitute and Handicapped Welfare Association (DAHWA), a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in collaboration with J&K Academy of Art and Cultural Languages (JKAACL) and Shiv Mandir Committee, Khoon. Various departmental stalls including Agriculture, Social Welfare, Health, Handicrafts, Animal and Sheep Husbandry, Horticulture were installed in the Mela with an objective to create massive awareness among the rural folk regarding several Governmental schemes meant for their socio-economic empowerment. Officers from these departments educated the ruralities about these development programmes. Local artists including Ramdita and party, Ramaloo Ram and party, mesmerized the audience with their folk songs and skits. Assistant Commissioner, Revenue, representing the District Administration, inaugurated the Mela and appreciated the DAHWA for organizing such an informative programme. Speakaing on the occasion, DAHWA, Chairman, Surat Singh Sumbria expressed gratitude to the Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur, baser Ahmad Khan and local people for extending cooperation to make the Mela a grand success. He informed that similar Gramin-cum-Cultural Mela would be organized at Manwal as it the endeavour of DAHWA who promote the less develop tourist destinations of the State to add to the tourism development of J&K.
