1.22 lakh pilgrims pay obeisance in 3 days at Shiv Khori

REASI, Feb14: Enormous flow of visiting pilgrims to the historic Shri Shiv Khori Cave Shrine has broken all previous records during three-day Maha Shivratri Shiv Khori mela which concluded here yesterday.
Keeping in view the ever increasing popularity, sanctity, religious importance of Shiv Khori as over 1, 22,438 pilgrims from various parts of the country visited the historic Shrine Cave during 3 mela days this year registering as increase of over 31,459 pilgrims as against 90979 pilgrims who visited during mela days in 2009.
After constitution of Shri Shiv Khori Shrine Board during December 2003 and provision of adequate facilities for the visiting pilgrims, the yatra to the cave shrine is increasing every year in a phased manner. Number of yatris which was just 18858 during three mela days in 2004, increased upto 26053 in 2005, 37210 in 2006, 58665 in 2007, it stood at 90979 during 3 days mela in 2009.
The Deputy Commissioner, Reasi, Pandurang K. Pole, Senior Superintendent of Police, Reasi, Anand Jain, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Sukhdev Singh Sambyal, Addl. Superintendent of Police Katra, Shiv Kumar, Tehsildar Settlement Gopal Singh (Mela Officer), Naib Tehsildar Pouni, Puran Chand who is presently holding the charge of Manager of Shri Shiv Khori Shrine Board, Naib Tehsildar Reasi, Munshi Ram and Naib Tehsildar (PA to DC Reasi) Prithvi Singh who were nominated as magistrate on duty along with officers from other departments remained stationed at Shiv Khori and Ransoo to supervise the yatra and other related arrangements.
A Vishal Kesri Dangal which was held at Ransoo on the occasion of last day of Mela was another impressive event for thousands of pilgrims and locals which was made more mesmerised by the wrestlers from with in the state and various parts of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh etc. by displaying their wrestling skills for entertainment of the audience.
