Jammu: There were no incidents of custodial killing, disappearance and rape involving security persons in 2009, official figures say.
As per the statistics complied by the state home ministry, there was a fall in the human rights violations since 2006.
"This is the result of zero tolerance adopted by the state authorities and security agencies to the human rights violation cases in the state," a senior official said.
As compared to 2009, there was one case of custodial killing and 3 cases of rapes and 2 cases of molestations registered in 2008, the statistics said.
There were 4 cases of custodial killings, 5 rapes and 4 molestations registered in 2007 followed by 7 cases of custodial killings, 3 cases of disappearances, 5 rapes and 2 molestations in 2006.
There were 7 cases of custodial killings, one of disappearance, 7 rapes and 6 molestations in 2005, followed by 9 custodial killings, 3 cases of disappearances, 20 rapes and 11 molestations in 2004.
A total of 333 cases of custodial killings, 110 disappearances, 62 rapes and 51 molestations were registered in Jammu and Kashmir since 1990, the data said.
Referring to Human Rights Violations (HRVs), people had made 1,470 complaints in State Human Rights Commission, 349 complaints in National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and 59 in Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) since 1998.
The break up is:- 36 complaints made in the SHRC so far in 2010 followed 239 in 2009, 325 in 2008 and 380 in 2007, the official data said.
