| Ankur hits unbeaten ton, guides Trikuta College to QFs | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 15: A splendid unbeaten century by Ankur Slathia today helped Trikuta Degree College register a superb 20 runs win over Government Degree College Kathua to enter the quarterfinals of the ongoing inter-college cricket tournament at University of Jammu grounds, here. Ankur faced only 65 balls to make 106 runs hitting one six and 16 boundaries. Earlier, Trikuta College won the toss and decided to bat first they set a target of 172 runs for the loss of five wickets in allotted 20 overs. In reply, Kathua College could not chase the total and exhausted their quota of 20 overs for 151 runs losing eight wickets. Besides Ankur’s century, Shajid Ali also played well contributing unbeaten 17-ball 30 runs including a six and three boundaries. From Kathua College, Sunny Manhas was most successful bowler with two for 43 in four overs while Sumesh Choudhary and Madan shared apiece each. Batting second Kathua College made slow but steady start, but could not maintain the required run rate. They fell short of 20 runs to meet the opponent total making 151 runs in 20 overs play with two wickets in hand. Labh Singh was top scorer with 47 runs coming off mere 16 deliveries studded with three sixes and four boundaries. Madan Kalotra and Rahul Singh contributed 31 and 28 runs respectively. From Trikuta College, Parveen and Shajad took two wickets each, followed by Prabhjeet Singh, who bagged one. Earlier, in another first round match, Government Degree College Akhnoor trounced Mahant Bachiter Singh College (MBS) by four wickets. Batting first, MBS made 143 runs for the loss of six wickets, which, in reply, Akhnoor College chased in 18.3 overs for the loss of six wickets. Tarandeep Singh made highest 53 (off 35 balls, 3x6, 4x4) while Ramandeep Singh and Mukul Jandial contributed 24 and 14 runs respectively. From Akhnoor College, Ajay Sharma bagged four wickets while Suzan Singh and Sanjeev Sharma took one each. Later, Akhnoor College chased the total in 18.3 overs for the loss of six wickets. Neelam Singh was top scorer with 33 runs while Chandan Sharma and Sanjeev contributed 25 and 21 runs respectively. Owais Shafi and Subrat took two wickets each. Today’s matches were officiated by Vijay Dogra, Ravi Pandit, Raman Kumar and Pankaj Sasun.
